Dia de los Muertos: The ULTIMATE Birthday Celebration

Last month, I hosted a fabulous Dia de los Muertos 50th birthday party for my husband in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, complete with authentic altar and ofrenda. What better way to celebrate a commemorative milestone, than with a Day of the Dead theme. Enjoy all the details below.

The Invitation

Earlier this year, I was dining with a friend and the ever-so-fabulous Billy Fong at Neiman Marcus Cafe.  As we were chatting about everything under the sun, he showed us the most fantastic invitation I had ever seen. It was that invitation that inspired me to think outside of the envelope for a once in a lifetime celebration.

I immediately knew Paper Planet would be the perfect company for the job. I carefully sourced all of the unique items that went into this invite and worked closely with Julie, the owner of Paper Planet. The results? I think it’s pretty clear; they are talented at what they do.

Calavera Face Painting

I surprised our friends with artists, who painted traditional Dia de los Muertos calavera designs on their faces. A Day of the Dead party isn’t complete without your guests looking like they are ready to honor departed loved ones at the nearby cemetery.

The Altar and Ofrenda

An official Day of the Dead birthday celebration must include an altar with an ofrenda. Fortunately for us, the Hyder House had this beautiful altar build into the architecture. I brought personal photos from home, and the house staff completed the look with traditional items that were used to honor the deceased, including things that Jason loved most, like favorite chocolates, meals and even beverages of choice.

The Tablescape

In keeping with the Dia de los Muertos theme, the florist used plenty of Marigolds with splashes of other brightly colored roses. The orange placemats, yellow napkins, and green glasses tie in all of the floral. Of course, this birthday celebration wouldn’t be complete without original Mexican pottery from San Miguel de Allende, topped off with jewel-crusted menus from Paper Planet.

The Dance Party

After dinner, we headed to the lower loggia for a dance-off, and a dance-off it was. LED bling and a mega bag of Cheetos were the perfect addition to the ultimate competition. The acrylic-lit dance floor provided ideal ambiance lighting to party the night away.

The Party Favors

I firmly believe in party favors. It’s a gracious gesture, and your guest will appreciate the thought, no matter how big or small. In this case, we hosted 10 of our nearest and dearest out of the country, so our party favors were the guest amenity baskets.

In keeping with the theme, the items chosen below all had significant meaning to the weekend. From hydration to hot sauce, sanitation and fashion, I had it fully covered, including the weekend itinerary; if it had only arrived on time from customs.

Stay tuned!

SoFortWorthIt Visits Fright Fest

A couple of weeks ago, Autumn Reo with Mama Challenge and The Reo Agency reached out to me to join her on a frightful adventure to Six Flags. It was only appropriate that we bring a cinematographer, aka, cool camera guy Joshua Colson, to capture all of our screams on film. You’ll get a kick out of this one minute video. Special thanks to Josh Mills with Desert Wind Films, this wouldn’t have been possible with him.

Over the next few weeks, I have some incredible posts coming your way. Last month I entertained outside of the country and this week I’m traveling to another stellar destination. I can’t wait to share it all with you.

I’m also working on my wildly popular Holiday Events and Activities in DFW. I have tons of giveaway and prizes on the horizon, so hold on to your pants! Speaking of giveaways, I hope you enjoyed the ones above.

Leave a comment below! I would love to hear your thoughts and ideas on making SFWI the best it can be! xoxo

Welcome to The Re-Relaunch of SoFortWorthIt

Hiiii!!!! Welcome back to SoFortWorthIt, AGAIN! Holy crap, have I missed the ever-loving daylights out of ya’ll!

Soooo, I was dealt some unexpected Joker cards over the past twelve months. But, you know what they say, when life gives you lemons…by golly, get a bottle of Vodka and make one helluva drink. It’s all about coming out with the winning hand!

WTF Vodka

In order to give the quality and user experience you deserve, I made the decision to scrap my first site three weeks after its inaugural launch in September 2016. I immediately hired former IT director of Project Veritas, Jim DiMeo. This website was built by someone who ran the back end of the company who brought many evil doers to justice, and Jim took the time to focus and understand the mission behind my website. I will never hire another web developer besides Jim, ever again. Lesson learned, unfortunately the hard way.

Nicole Ellis, the super talented Visual Brand Designer and owner of Sweet Southern Pixels, is the mastermind behind the new SoFortWorthIt’s logo/branding design, print collateral and social media templates. She specializes in helping female entrepreneurs create all things fabulous. I’ve truly been blown away by all of her talent. I consider her one of the best in the industry.

Last, but not least of all the companies I worked with, big props and three cheers to Balcom Agency! It was absolutely incredible working with them. Their professionalism exceeded everything I have ever experienced in their field before. Bar none, Balcom Agency is THE best of its kind in all of Fort Worth and the greater cities.

This website re-relaunch was made possible with the incredible support and encouragement of people around me.  I relied on several dear friends to make SoFortWorthIt what it is today. Special shout outs to the following peeps:

SARAH

Sarah Arnold

My childhood best friend, interior designer, granny panty super model and mother of my Godson. Also, Sarah doesn’t eat green vegetables and lettuce still makes her gag.

JENNY

Jenny Pace Dupree

Delta Gamma Big Sis at SMU, acrylic painting mastermind and mini Martha Stewart extraordinaire. Jenny’s also been known to do a perfect ballet performance to an original 1977 Star Wars record playing.

FRENCH

Sheridan French

Sister in Christ, spot on singer of Miley Cyrus’s Wrecking Ball and former fashion blogger of The Southern Eclectic. This girl will make you laugh so hard, tears will roll down your legs!

ERMA

Erma Lee

My babysitter of 25 years (do the math, yes we both need counseling) who edits my work in exchange for great meals and witty conversation with me. My boys agree she’s still the best babysitter, with her lenient parenting style. No wonder I had so much fun with her when growing up. Funny how history repeats itself.

Unknown-2

Lizzie Cox Welborn

My next door neighbor and childhood BFF, who wreaked havoc with me on our bikes while terrorizing Ridglea neighborhoods. Many advised me, but she was the one who spent hours helping to finalize details Nicole sent for approval. Lizzie specializes in custom, hand-rendered and painted paper designs, commissioned children’s portraits, special occasion décor and tablescapes on top of taking on very select groups of full-scale interior design projects.

VICTORIA-2

Victoria Wise

Creative genius of the Facebook group and blog, Tanglewood Moms, and founder of Made Worthy magazine. The biggest cheerleader of SoFortWorthIt was Victoria, who encouraged me to believe I could be successful independent from Fort Worth Magazine. She also allowed me to use her blogsite to sponsor my wildly popular ‘Ultimate & Best in DFW’ holiday articles while we were building the second website.

Janie Harper

A big shout out to my neighbor who makes everyone ROTFL. Not only does Janie keep the neighborhood in line, she also kept me focused on the big picture. She helped me turn a negative situation into a positive one with her pep talks and encouraging words! Let me tell you, cocktails with this woman are soo much fun!

Tammie Rhinehart

And finally, a special thank you to my incredible assistant. For the past four years, Tammie has held my hand through it all, particularly during the last 12 months. She scraped me up off the floor when crap hit the fan hard enough to knock me to my knees. She has been my extra set of hands, especially helping us with my precious mother-in-law who is suffering from dementia. Tammie is also the primary contact for all things pertaining to SoFortWorthIt. Seriously, I couldn’t live without this woman!

One of the new features of SoFortWorthIt is?  Drum roll, please.

Fort Worth’s newest and most fabulous Social and Events Calendar EVER!!! From galas, non-profits, and grand openings to social events including celebrity bartending and celebrations open to the public, everyone will know what’s so worth it to attend! For information and requirements to list an event on SoFortWorthIt, email calendar@sofortworthit.com.

Social Calendar

VIDEOS!  They are coming soon and they will be awesome! Think big screen moments captured right here in our amazing hometown! This fun promo video was created by A Maggie Film.

In short, this website kicks ass, and I hope you enjoy the efforts of me and my first class team who helped to make SoFortWorthIt massively improved and easier to navigate.

Now, let’s get on with the show. Please enjoy my very 1st blog post I wrote back in September of 2016, before I shut the first site down. Click on the image below.
